Mariano Ortega, 96 of Amarillo passed away October 14, 2016. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 I-40 East. Mariano was born April 5, 1920 in Zacatecas, Mexico to Angel and Maria Escobedo Ortega. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 I-40 East. Mariano was born April 5, 1920 in Zacatecas, Mexico to Angel and Maria Escobedo Ortega. He lived most of his life in a small town near Ciudad Juarez, Mexico and for the last few years in Amarillo. Mariano was a loving husband to his wife Juanita Ortega for more than 71 years. He was better known as "Nonon" or "Monono" by all his twenty-four grandkids, twenty-one great-grandkids and fourteen great-great-grandkids. He loved playing dominoes and at a younger age he played the "tololoche" or bass in a band. He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Juanita Ortega and son, Rosendo Ortega. He is survived by his daughter, Esperanza Solis; sons, Rafael, Rito and Pedro Ortega; also his twenty-four grandkids, twenty-one great-grandkids and fourteen great-great-grandkids.
